HI,
I'm planning a trip to Kenya this autumn and am loooking for advice about how to plan a safari. Can I book it there or should I book this in advance? Which national parcs are recommended? I read some good stories about Tsavo, Masai Mara and Ambosselli. But to go to all parcs mybe too much. Looking forward to your replies everybody!!

Hi Bart,
The safari you will be able to book on every corner of every street And... you'll get a better deal there. Make sure you book together with a bunch of people who have the same interest (for example a group of people you meet in your hotel). We spent a week at the beach near Mombassa and met some other couples and wanted to book a van (jeeps were a lot more expensive and not more comfort) having space for 8 people but then only use it with 6 (so we had more space). When we discussed this at the hotelbar, in no time there were 6 others who wanted to join, so we booked 2 vans (normally for 16 people) for 12 people and a chauffeur/guide for about 240 Euro per person for a 3 day trip including everything. The touroperator we booked the vacation with, asked double the amount, so quite a nice deal.
Touroperators warn you for the guys at the beach offering safaris', but our experience is that they offer good service and good prices. What we also did is to pay afterwards (since we were with such a large group, they were open for negotiation), and we paid afterwards with a nice tip.
So: book it there! and team up with some more nice people, you want to spend 3 or more days with (another advantage: you can pick your own co-safari's instead of being stuck with grumpy people who paid twice your price hahahaha)
We've been to Ambosselli and Tsavo (east and west). Ambosselli was a bit better and we saw more animals there (lions from 3 meters away, beautiful!). Tsavo is a lot bigger (second largest after Kruger park in South Africa, i've heart), so the concentration of animals is probably less, but we also saw beautiful animals there! Giraffes crossing the raod in front of the van and zebra's elephants etc. etc.
Have lots of fun! It will be a great experiences

My experience is also to book your safari in Kenya at the spot, no problem. In all beaches they are selling the trips. Yes, it's a good advice to join another group or look for more people. That you get a better deal and you know your travelmates already.
Have fun with the Kenya safari's!! |
