Hi,
When I'm in Peru I want to walk the famous Inca trail to see Machu Pichu. Does anyone have experience with arranging this? Can i book it in advance or even have to book it in advance or can I arrange it on the spot in Peru for example in Cuzco? thanks a lot!

You cannot trek/hike the Inca Trail independently and must book with a tour. They changed this three years ago in order to protect the area from over use. It is advisable to book your tour in advance depending on the time of year you choose to visit. High season (June-September) would most likely mean booking your tour a month or two in advance where in contrast during the low season (October-March) you could probably make a reservation in less than a week.
In February the classic 4 day Inca Trail route closes for conservation, but Macchu Picchu and the 2 day trail to the ruins will remain open.
Maximum group size in a trekking group should not be higher than 16 people.
Make sure you give yourself 2 days to acclimatise in Cusco before setting off on the trail!!
The Treks to Machu Picchu,
Classic 4 Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu,,, most popular trek. Walk 4 days to the ruins and take the train back to Cusco.
Short 2 Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu,,,for those with less time.
Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu,,, this is a 7 day/6 night trek that is a less touristy for those that want to avoid the crowds and have more time and money.
Check with tour operaters for prices as they seem to change each year.
