I in January next year we go down under Australia and want to rent a camper.
But I don't know what to do with insurance. Take a full package is very expensive, is this really necesary?

What's your experience?

Hi Kim,

Just take the basic insurance if you don't plan to do crazy things with the camper. I know that in New Zealand your risk was 750 NZ$ (about 460 Euro nowadays) but you could limit this to 100 NZ$ for paying 8 dollars more per day. If you go for a month, it would mean you would pay 30x8=240 NZ$ extra for saving 650 in case of an accident.... it's up to you. There also was the option pay 12 $ more per day and you don't have to pay anything in case of accident (including tyres and windows).

Hi Kim and Kai,

Yes that's my experience too: they try to over-insure you while you are there and rent a car or camper in for example Australia or New Zealand. It's of course a good thing (and necessity) to be insured, but most incidents are coverred by the basic insurance. The rest depends on your driving mostly Wink And the cost that might occur are limited, so the risk as well.... It's up to you.
